Volunteering Work

I believe knowledge is a trust, and the best way to honor it is by sharing it.
زكاة العلم تعليمه - “the charity of knowledge is teaching it.” That’s the principle I live by.

Giving back isn’t something I do on the side. It’s integrated into everything, my time, my work, and my energy. Whether it’s mentoring one-on-one, creating resources in Arabic and English, supporting women in tech, or advising startups, I give, and keep giving, because the reward comes from Allah.

🧩 Roles I Play to Give Back

Here’s how I contribute in collaboration with different communities and initiatives:

  • Through global developer programs:
I used to contribute regularly to Google’s developer and Google’s startup programs by mentoring experts, refining content, and amplifying underrepresented voices.
But I stepped away from these programs due to the company’s involvement in AI and Cloud initiatives that have been linked to military applications harming civilians in Palestine.
Tech should uplift, not oppress. Until then, I continue this work independently. Feel free to reach out if you’re building something aligned.

  • By creating accessible learning materials:
My tutorials -especially in Arabic- have helped thousands adopt new Android tools like Jetpack Compose since 2019.
📊 64K+ reads, 50K+ attendees/viewers, 100+ hours of mentorship for devs across multiple tech companies.

  • By empowering women in tech:
I help juniors get started and support senior women as they grow into their desired leadership roles through initiatives like Zain’s Women in Tech, Groundbreaker Talents, and formerly Women Techmakers and Women Who Code. If you’re building a “Women in Tech” initiative and want someone who supports, mentors, and occasionally drops a cat meme to keep the mood light, I’m your person. Invite me in 😹!

  • By mentoring startups:
Previously, I’ve supported entrepreneurs in making technical decisions, leveraging my experience in Android, Kotlin, Flutter, Dart, Firebase, and AI — in collaboration with The Garage, Google Cloud Saudi Arabia, and Google for Startups (MENA-T). These days, I continue doing this independently through open mentorship sessions. If you’re building something and want a second opinion, we can talk!

  • By moderating and answering dev questions:
When I have the time, I help moderate channels on JetBrains’ Kotlin Slack, where I answer questions, and share some resources.

  • By mentoring students from developing regions:
As a former Google Solution Challenge mentor (2022–2024), I supported teams from underserved areas in building impactful tech solutions. I continue this work with initiatives like Groundbreaker Talents. If you’re running a mentorship program, let’s talk!

  • By contributing to the future of Android:
As part of the Android Insiders Program, I provide early feedback and advocate for both developers and users as the operating system & dev tools evolve.

  • By offering support when it’s needed:
Whether it’s code reviews, debugging, career chats, public speaking tips, or anything else you need a second brain on, I make time regularly to support other developers through open mentorship calls. You can grab a slot here.
